Report from Roda Game 20th Jan

Roda Golf Wednesday 20th January 2010
This was our first game of the year for the society and we couldn’t have picked a better day. A good turn out as well made for an individual stableford competition with 3 categories. The conditions were perfect for golf, with just a light breeze and a pleasant warmth about the day. The course was in good condition as well providing us with the opportunity for some good scoring which is exactly what we achieved. Not only was it an individual stableford there were also prizes for nearest the pin on all the par 3´s and a 2´s prize which was a rollover from the December game .
Being last out it was my job to retrieve the NTP markers, but on reaching the 1st par 3 there was just a piece of paper on the edge of the green with no-ones name on it, so hole 2 was not won with a Nearest the Pin.
The second par 3 at Roda is the signature 7th hole surrounded by water and I was surprised to see the NTP marker quite close to the flag, and even more surprised when I saw Frank (2 points) Broadhursts name on it. I later discovered that Frank sank the putt to earn a share of the 2´s pot. Well played Frank! The third par 3 is the 11th and that went to Barry Beale and the fourth I actually witnessed was by Richard Wale who also made a 2. Incredibly Richard scored a second 2 at the par 4, 15th hole, chipping in from some distance away. In fact it was quite a good day for Richard as he went on to score 39 points overall.
The results of the day were as follows:- Category 1: Winner Richard Wale 39 points. 2nd place Bob Gallard 37 points.
Category 2: Winner David Williams 39 points. 2nd Place Bob Eaton 31 points.
Category 3: Winner John Hillier 34 points. 2nd Place Mick Hardy 32 points.
Our thanks to Roda Golf for a superb day and a well presented course.
San Javier Golf Societies next game is on the 1st February at Vistabella, payday is Saturday 30th January at The Campsite San Javier.
